The Hyperattenuating Crescent Sign Is Not Necessarily a Sign of Impending Aortic Aneurysm Rupture

A retrospective review of radiology reports a single health care system between 2004 and 2019. Of 82 patients with an aortic crescent sign found on computed tomography (CT) scanning, the average aneurysm size was 7.1 cm. In 85% (70 82) CT scan reports, comments suggested “risk imminent rupture.” patients, 33 (40%) had not required intervention after median follow-up 9 months, 30 (37%) undergone emergent or urgent repair, 19 (23%) elective repair later. who intervention, patient-years (median, 3 months) elapsed presentation without any acute rupture. No surgical candidate <8 cm presented rupture aneurysm. The finding isolated sign, other signs such as hemothorax, wall disruption, retroperitoneal bleeding, is necessarily indicator impending However, can be associated larger aneurysms rapid growth.
